The Milwaukee Brewers are currently searching for someone to become their 20th different manager in franchise history. Several names have been tossed around as candidates, but in this article we will highlight one in particular. This is current Houston Astros hitting coach Troy Snitker.
Milwaukee Brewers manager candidate spotlight: Troy Snitker (Current Houston Astros hitting coach).
Troy Snitker, who is the son of Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker, is one of if not the youngest managerial candidate to consider. He is just 34 years old, but since 2018 he has been the Houston Astros hitting coaching. It took him just four seasons to make it to the big leagues as a coach.
Prior to signing on as a minor league hitting coaching for the Astros in 2015 Troy Snitker took a gap year between retiring from playing and transitioning to coaching. He used this time to coach at North Georgia, obtaining a masters degree, and teaching himself Spanish to better connect with international players.
As a player Troy Snitker never made it to the big leagues. He was selected in the 19th round in the 2011 draft by the Atlanta Braves, but found himself playing in Indy ball by 2013. As mentioned above he retired from playing in 2014 and focused on his schooling and preparing for a career in coaching.
Even though Troy Snitker is young, between his preparations for a career in coaching, success as a hitting coach in the Houston Astros organization, and having a father who is a successful manager all makes him a candidate worthy of consideration.
