The Milwaukee Brewers could be popping champagne as soon as Friday night as their magic number to clinic the National League Central division title is at two. On Friday Milwaukee will take on the Miami Marlins with the first pitch scheduled for 5:40 PM CT and the Chicago Cubs will play a day game against the Colorado Rockies starting at 1:20 PM CT.

Milwaukee Brewers magic number at two entering the Miami Marlins series.
For the past month or so the Brewers biggest challenger in the National League Central was the Chicago Cubs. Each of these teams have gone in completely different directions as of late. Since August 18 Milwaukee has the best record in Major League Baseball with a record of 22-9. On the other hand Chicago has lost 10 of their last 13 games.

A lot has gone right for the Brewers as of late, but it has been a team effort to get to this point. The pitching staff currently has not allowed double digit hits in their past 26 games. They have done this despite high-leverage reliever Elvis Peguero landing on the IL and Joel Payamps surrendering at least one hit in 13 consecutive games.
Offensively the team has been putting up a lot of crooked numbers without star outfielder Christian Yelich. Players stepping up with some impressive numbers right now include Sal Frelick, who has a 17 game on-base streak. William Contreras, who has reached base safely in 29 out of his last 30 games. Mark Canha, who has more RBIs as a Brewer (30) in 43 games than he had in 89 games with the Mets this season (29). Lastly, Josh Donaldson has been slugging the ball very well.

The Milwaukee Brewer are hitting their stride at the right time they soon will be rewarded with the National League Central division title.
