Like every team the Milwaukee Brewers wish they could land Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani. The two-way player is putting together a ridiculous season both on the mound and at the plate. He is a rental trade candidate, but could definitely benefit any team over the next few months and could potentially make any team World Series favorites.
In the news the Angels have indicated that the starting point for any trade discussion revolving around Shohei Ohtani is multiple top 100 prospects. Recently Reviewing the Brew put together some trade proposals built around this information. The biggest question is if any of them are enough to get a deal done?
Milwaukee Brewers-Los Angeles Angels trade proposals for Shohei Ohtani.
Trade proposal #1: Jeferson Quero and Sal Frelick for Shohei Ohtani
As expected both catcher Jeferson Quero and outfielder Sal Frelick are top 100 prospects. Quero is just 20 years old, but is tearing it up in Double-A this year and is regarded as one of the best defensive catchers. Frelick is a contact oriented hitter who is just a call away from the big leagues. He’s struggled a bit since coming back from a thumb injury, but his hit tool and speed will play at the next level.
Trade proposal #2: Jacob Misiorowski and Sal Frelick for Shohei Ohtani
This is a similar concept to the first trade proposal, but it adds in a pitching prospect instead of a catcher. Misiorowski recently made the news for his standout performance at the Futures game. The Angels have struggled with starting pitching so perhaps acquiring the Brewers top arm would intrigue them a bit more.
Trade proposal #3: Jackson Chourio for Shoehi Othani
The final proposal is a straight swap of players. Jackson Chourio is one of the highest ranked prospects in all of baseball. Swapping a prospect of that caliber out for a rental player doesn’t sound like a great idea, but this is Shohei Ohtani we are talking about and no prospect is off limits when it comes to him.
Based on the Angels comments all three of these trade proposals would at least get a conversation started for a potential Shohei Ohtani trade. Los Angeles is in the driver seat of these conversations, so if they want more in return they have every right to continue to drive the cost up.
It will be interesting to see if Ohtani does get moved before August 1 or not.
