The Milwaukee Brewers 2024 international signing class is continuing to take shape. Shortstops Jorge Quintana and Jesus Made are the highest ranked signings, but after that there is a blend of some fun and unique talent. One prospect that they signed is actually the cousin of a current pitcher for the Brew Crew and that pitcher has the potential to be in contention for the Cy Young award.
Christopher Peralta, cousin to Freddy Peralta, has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers during the international signing period.
In 2013 Freddy Peralta signed as an international prospect. At that time the Dominican Republic native had agreed to join the Seattle Mariners organization. He wouldn’t join the Brewers until 2015 when he was one of three pitchers included in the deal that sent Adam Lind out west.
After making a historic MLB debut with the Brewers in 2018, Freddy Peralta found a way to stay on the big league roster. He bounced around between a starter and a reliever for a few years, but before the start of the 2020 season he agreed to a contract that guaranteed him $15.5 million over five years. 2021 has been his best statistical season in which that year he posted a 2.81 ERA and .165 batting average against, but he did not have enough innings to qualify for the Cy Young award.
Looking ahead to 2024 Freddy will now have his cousin Christopher in the organization as well. Christopher is just starting his baseball journey, but his connection to a well established MLB pitcher should benefit him as he begins to navigate life as a professional athlete.
