The Milwaukee Brewers and Gary Sanchez have officially agreed to terms regarding a contract for the 2024 season, but it took nearly two weeks for the sides to come together after having to re-negotiate. An issue during Sanchez’s physical was the hold up and it was related to the same right hand/wrist that caused his 2023 season to end prematurely.
Gary Sanchez fractured his wrist last September with the San Diego Padres.
A 98 MPH fastball to the wrist in September of 2023 resulted in a fracture for Gary Sanchez. This caused his season to end early. Despite this history Sanchez indicated that he was fully recovered from the fracture and that the hold up in his physical was related to a new injury in the same hand/wrist.
Prior to signing with the Milwaukee Brewers Gary Sanchez sustained a new injury.
“I recovered completely from the hit by pitch last year. A few weeks before signing I was in the gym and kind of turned my hand a little bit doing an exercise and something kind of flared up. But I had completely recovered from the hit by pitch last year, and it has nothing to do with what’s going on now.”
Gary Sanchez is day-to-day currently and will not be playing until he is ready.
Right now the Brewers are using a cautious approach with Sanchez and he has not started participating in camp. There is no current timetable for when he may start. It’s not uncommon for veteran players to start a little later than others, so this setback may not put him far behind.
“I don’t have a time to give you. I feel good right now. Just taking it day by day. Going with what the trainers give me. We’ll get in there and talk to them tomorrow and see what tomorrow brings.”
