The Milwaukee Brewers offseason got started sooner than expected. As a result rumors regarding the future of ace Corbin Burnes have already begun. One team that could be a trade partner is the New York Mets and a writer at Rising Apple of Fansided recently proposed a package.
Milwaukee Brewers-New York Mets trade proposal sends Corbin Burnes to the big apple.
Trade proposal
Mets receive:
- RHP Corbin Burnes
Brewers receive:
- SS/OF Jett Williams, INF/OF Ronny Mauricio, RHP Jose Butto
Zachary Rotman, the constructor of this trade proposal, calls this package tempting enough for the Brewers to accept. He has the Mets giving up prized prospect Jett Williams while also parting ways with MLB ready players Ronny Mauricio and Jose Butto.
19 year old Jett Williams, the Mets third ranked prospect, was selected 14th overall in 2022. Across three minor league levels he drew 104 free passes in 2023 (.425 on-base percentage), while also hitting for a .263 batting average, and stealing 45 bases. Power is not his calling card, but he projects as a future leadoff hitter and his athleticism allows him to play multiple defensive positions.
Ronny Mauricio is a power and speed guy who hits from both sides of the plate. At times his ability to get on base lacks (.296 on-base percentage in the minor leagues in both 2021 and 2022), but the ability to slug is something the Brewers were missing a season ago. He could immediately slot in at third base while also being able to play second base as well.
Lastly there is Jose Butto. He is a starting pitcher with 46 career big league innings over the past two seasons. In 2023 he finished with a 3.64 ERA that spanned nine games and seven starts. On the mound his fastball sits in the mid 90s and his changeup plus slider in the mid to high 80s.
Overall the center piece of this trade proposal Jett Williams is a very attractive prospect and there is good potential surrounding Ronny Mauricio at third base. Jose Butto is not a slam dunk and with one minor league option remaining he may only get one year with Milwaukee to showcase his arsenal.
Looking at this a bit deeper, from Milwaukee’s perspective they would have to sort out if Ronny Mauricio is who they want to get an extended look at or not. Andruw Monasterio figures to see time at the hot corner next year along with Tyler Black. Additionally top 2023 draft choices in Brock Wilken and Mike Boeve are both third basemen and they could advance through the system quickly.
Compared to other proposals, this trade package is a bit more on the tempting side. The combination of two MLB ready players and a top prospect gives Milwaukee some immediate help while also providing a promising prospect who could make an impact in a few years.

I saw the original article this was based on and just laughed.
This is peanuts for a top 10 pitcher in all of baseball.
