Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames has been an iron man for the team this season. Entering play on September 19 he had started all 152 games this year. The last Brewers player to start all 162 games in a season was Prince Fielder. Fielder will remain the last player in franchise history to accomplish this as Adames got a much needed off-day the day after the Brew Crew clinched the National League Central title.
Willy Adames was not in the Milwaukee Brewers starting lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Brewers starting lineup Thursday night against the Diamondbacks consisted of Joey Ortiz at shortstop instead of Willy Adames. Playing third base as a result was Andruw Monasterio. Brice Turang, who also can play shortstop, remained at second base.
Willy Adames was in a slump at the plate.
Baseball is a game of ups and downs and prior to taking the night off Willy Adames was in a slump at the plate. Over the last seven days he had been batting just .154 with a .241 on-base percentage. Additionally he had struck out 12 times in 26 at-bats that included three straight nights of multi-strikeout games (also hitless).
Don’t expect Willy Adames to rest for long.
Timing and seeing pitches is important for baseball players, so don’t expect Adames to take too much time off. As mentioned at the time of this publication there were just 10 games remaining. It will be crucial for Adames to see pitches and re-establish some rhythm at the plate prior to the playoff beginning.
