Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez is 36 years old and entering the final year of his contract with the team. It is unknown if it will be his last season in the NBA. Lopez has been effective throughout his tenure with Milwaukee.
Brook Lopez was one of the names who was rumored in trade talks this offseason. General manager Jon Horst did not draft a center in the 2024 NBA Draft. Horst did not find a Lopez replacement yet. For now, Lopez is projected to be the starting center for the Bucks this season.
CBS Sports Has Milwaukee Bucks Center Brook Lopez Ranked 88 In the NBA Top 100 Entering the 2024-2025 Season
The CBS Sports staff ranked its Top 100 players entering the 2024-2025 NBA season. Brook Lopez is one of four players on the Bucks roster who is on this list. Lopez is ranked 88th on the Top 10 by CBS Sports entering the 2024-2025 season. He was ranked as the 50th-best player by CBS Sports entering the 2023-2024 season.
Sam Quinn of CBS Sports said:
“How often do you hear a fanbase lament its lack of a rim-protecting center that can shoot 3-pointers? The Pelicans have been looking for one for five years. Everyone wants a Brook Lopez. They can’t have one because he’s one of a kind. Short of superstars on max contract, there simply aren’t other centers who take nothing off of the floor on either end while adding quite a bit on both. Lopez leads the league in contested shots every year. The 3-point efficiency waxes and wanes, but he pairs it with enough craft inside of the arc that defenses still have to account for him no matter where he is. He doesn’t pull in rebounds himself, but he’s so smart in his positioning and boxing out that he’s a very valuable team rebounder. He’s the center everyone wants but only the Bucks get to have.”
Lopez played in 79 games last season for the Bucks. He averaged 12.5 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.6 APG, 2.4 BPG, and 0.5 SPG. Lopez is one of the most underrated centers in the entire NBA.
Tradeable Option
There could be a chance that the Bucks could trade Brook Lopez either before or during the 2024-2025 season. This is only because he is in the final year of his contract and they may not want to lose for him nothing. However, if he is having a great year in 2024-2025, then there would be no need to trade him.
It is also true that since he hasn’t been traded, there may be no plans to trade him this season. The question will be after this season will Brook Lopez retire from the NBA? If not then will see if the Milwaukee Bucks will bring him back in 2025-2026 or if he will go to a different team.
