Craig Counsell, former Milwaukee Brewers skipper and current first year manager of the Chicago Cubs, was recently asked about the gap in-between the two organizations. This question was answered by Counsell speaking directly on the results that have happened this season as well as in seasons past. He also talked about how it should motivate the Cubs to be building 90 win teams.
The gap between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs is “daunting”.
During a pre-game press conference Craig Counsell was asked about the gap between the Brewers and Cubs. He acknowledged that Milwaukee has ran away with the division over the past two seasons and that trying to close that gap is a “daunting” task for not only Chicago but the other National League Central clubs as well.
“I think the message sent really is that there’s a big gap. I mean, they’re ahead of us by a lot.”

Pat Murphy has been using the word “undaunted” to motivate the 2024 Milwaukee Brewers.
Earlier this year Pat Murphy, who replaced Craig Counsell as the Brewers manager, had T-shirts made with the word “undaunted” across the front. Undaunted, which means not intimated or discouraged by difficulty, has been a motivating word in Milwaukee this year for it sums up the 2024 team perfectly.
Craig Counsell says the Chicago Cubs organization has “a lot of work to do.”
In the same pre-game press conference Craig Counsell talked about how the Cubs should be striving to build 90 win teams each year. 90 wins is generally a safe number to make the playoffs. Counsell said that they have a lot of work to do yet.
“We should try to be building 90-win teams around here.”
