The Brewers season is quickly approaching and pitchers and catchers reported today. Along with their arrival came plenty of news including an injury update on Aaron Ashby.
The Aaron Ashby news is not getting better. The Brewers expect the 24yo lefty to miss "a couple of months," Craig Counsell said, with shoulder inflammation.

Aaron Ashby Injury Implications

Aaron Ashby signed a five-year extension last season after making his first start in 2020. Ashby has spent time as both a starter and pitching multiple innings out of the bullpen. Ashby was expected to compete with Adrian Houser for the fifth spot in the rotation behind Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta and Eric Lauer.
Adam McCalvy reported on February 8th that the young pitcher would be behind in camp with shoulder inflammation. His tweet at the time said, “Considering Ashby spent three weeks on the IL last season with shoulder inflammation, they’ll play it safe with him.”
Today he reported that he will miss a couple of months according to Craig Counsell.
In 2021 Aaron Ashby appeared in 27 games making 19 starts. He pitched 107.1 innings and struck out 126 batters. Ashby was 2-10 as a starter which is not a reflection of how well he actually pitched. His absence will leave a big hole on the roster. Houser will likely claim the fifth starting spot to start the season while Ashby rehabs.
