NFL fans are praying for former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy after reports came out Wednesday about his health. Per Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Dallas Cowboys head coach will have emergency surgery Wednesday afternoon for acute appendicitis.

McCarthy had abdominal pain early Wednesday morning.
From the #Cowboys: Coach Mike McCarthy experienced abdominal pain this morning that warranted further evaluation and resulted in a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. He is slated for surgery this afternoon, expected to be released later today, and anticipates coaching on Sunday.

Per Jane Slater, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said the team has a contingency plan in place in case McCarthy is absent. Quinn suggested McCarthy would coach against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Quinn said McCarthy did not look good Wednesday morning.

I drove an ambulance for 7 years as a fireman. Had a guy with an inflamed appendix. We were 34 miles from the hospital. He screamed at every bump in the road. Do not envy Coach.
