Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks exceeded expectations as a fifth-round pick a season ago. He caught 39 passes for 581 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 14.9 yards per catch. Wicks was targeted 58 times by quarterback Jordan Love.
He was third out of the wide receivers on the team in receiving yards. Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs had more wide receiving yards than him, but Dontayvion Wicks had more receiving yards than Christian Watson did last season.
There is a lot of potential with this wide receiver room this year, including Jayden Reed and Wicks entering this season. Evan Massey, an Insider for NFLAnalysisNet spoke to an NFL scout about who predicts a huge leap for Wicks this upcoming season.
The scout said:
“Wicks is a guy that I think will be a legitimate No. 1 in a year or two. Honestly, I think it will be sooner rather than later. He’s going to explode next season.”
Wicks last season was one of the best in the league at getting open. When Christian Watson missed several games last season due to injury, Dontayvion Wicks showed what he can do. There is a lot of potential with him and there is no doubt that Reed and Wicks could be the top two wide receivers on this football team.
If Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Explodes In Year 2, It Will Be One of the Best Wide Receiver Trios in the NFL
One of the things to watch for before the 2024 season begins is where Wicks will be listed on the depth chart for the Packers. Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs will be ranked ahead of him, but will he be ranked ahead of Christian Watson? Dontayvion Wicks earned his playtime last season and head coach Matt LaFleur has to give him snaps often.
His potential is through the roof and if Wicks breaks out in Year 2, it is possible that the Green Bay Packers will have one of the best wide receiver trios in the league with Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Wicks. Christian Watson as the fourth option is a good problem to have, especially if he is healthy.
No one on the Packers last year had 1,000 yards receiving but Jayden Reed and Wicks could be the wide receivers on this roster next season to reach that milestone. It also helps when quarterback Jordan Love could be a possible MVP candidate.
