The Marquette Golden Eagles named current NBA player Wesley Matthews to the M Club Hall of Fame on Tuesday, in an article released by communications on the Marquette website. Matthews is one of six people who were named to the M Club Hall of Fame. Those six members will be inducted in a ceremony coming in early 2024.
Wesley Matthews played college basketball for the Marquette Golden Eagles from 2006-2009. The other five people who will be joining him in the M Club Hall of Fame are Ryan McNamara (men’s lacrosse), Terri Mitchell (women’s basketball head coach), Tyler O’Brien (men’s track and field), Morgan Proffitt (women’s soccer), and Christine (Splinder) Jurss (women’s track and field).
M Club President Jim Packee said,
“It’s an honor to recognize another group of tremendous student-athletes and coaches. This year’s group spans numerous eras of success and is well deserving of its induction into the hall of fame. On behalf of the entire M Club, thank you for all you have done.

Matthews played for Marquette from 2006-2009. He ranks amongst Marquette’s top 10 in five categories, including scoring, in which he was 10th all-time in school history and scored 1,673 points. In all four years, he was with the college basketball program, they made it to the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons. Wesley Matthews won 94 games when he was with the Golden Eagles, and it’s the ninth-most wins in school history.
During his senior year, he was second-team all BIG East and also was one of the best free throw shooters in program history. Wesley Matthews made 549 and attempted 687, and those are both ranked second in school history. Matthews is currently in his 14th NBA season and will be on the Atlanta Hawks for the 2023-2024 season. His last team before that was the Milwaukee Bucks.
In his NBA career, he has scored more than 11,000 points, which is the third most for a player in the NBA who played at Marquette in college. Matthews has appeared in 950 career NBA games, and it is the fourth-most in NBA History for a player who was not drafted.
When he was with Marquette, his record in BIG East Conference play was 43-25. Wesley Matthews was a three-time captain of the basketball program during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. To go along with his 1,000 career points, he also grabbed over 500 rebounds during his collegiate career. One of the best honors he received was the Marquette University National Alumni Awards- Athletics Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2023 from the school.
