The Los Angeles Lakers are still searching for their next head coach.  The organization recently requested to interview a second assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks’.  The assistant coach LA has their eyes on is Charles Lee.  Lee, 37 has had a brief professional playing career before turning to coaching.

    Lee’s Journey

Charles Lee attended Bucknell University from 2002-2006.  During his time with the Bison, Lee led the team to two Patriot League Championships as well as two NCAA Tournament appearances.  In 2006, Lee was the Patriot League Player of the Year.

Upon graduation, Lee spent the summer in the San Antonio Spurs organization.  Unfortunately, Lee never made the final roster and this forced him to look elsewhere to continue playing basketball.  Over the next four years, Lee played professionally in Europe in Israel, Belgium and Germany.

Lee entered the coaching ranks in 2012 when he returned to Bucknell as an assistant coach.  Lee spent two season back at his alma matter before transitioning to the NBA.  In 2014, Lee joined Mike Budenholzer’s staff in Atlanta.  He’s been on Coach Bud’s staff ever since.

    Previous Interest

Last season Lee garnered plenty of interest from around the NBA.  Lee was reported as a finalist for both the New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards positions last season.  Transitioning to 2022, Lee has already interviewed for the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings openings.  The Kings’ position has been filled by Mike Brown but the Hornets have yet to name a head coach.

The Laker organization has a history or greatness and openings such as theirs will garner plenty of interest.  If Lee does indeed interview, he will be competing against numerous coaches with plenty of NBA experience and success.
