The Green Bay Packers made re-signing Keisean Nixon a priority this offseason, and the star returner wanted the team to keep other teammates heading into free agency. Nixon immediately came to the aid of a former teammate after news recently broke that tight end Marcedes Lewis would not be re-signed by the Packers.
Nixon became a rising star for the Packers during the second half of the 2022 season. He excelled as a returner after the Packers released wide receiver, Amari Rodgers. Nixon wanted to return to Green Bay this offseason, and the Packers made it happen. Nixon made sense for the Packers to re-sign, as the 25-year-old athlete fits in with the young roster the team is working with this season.

Even though Nixon fits in with the youth movement, Nixon understands what certain veterans mean to the Packers’ locker room. He had been vocally supportive of the idea that the Packers re-sign Lewis this offseason.
“I Only Got 1 Wish Greenbay Bring 89 Back,” Nixon wrote.

After the news broke Sunday night that Lewis would not be back, Nixon sent out another Tweet hoping Lewis could still come back:
“Let Me Make A Phone Call Hold On…,” he wrote.

That was a nice sentiment for Nixon to give Lewis after the news broke, but it’s unlikely the Packers’ front office would change their minds even if Nixon did make that phone call. The Packers are moving on with the two rookie tight ends they took in the draft. But there is no doubt the Packers’ locker room will miss Lewis’ leadership and blocking skill on the field. Lewis can still play in the league and will be a good teammate in 2023, just not with the Packers.
