Marcedes Lewis responded on social media shortly after a report dropped Sunday evening that the Green Bay Packers would not re-sign the 38-year-old tight end. The Packers added two tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft. With cap space spread thin and needs at other positions, the Packers decided to move on from Lewis.
Lewis is another prominent name from the Packers’ offense last season that will not be returning. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets. Wide receivers Allan Lazard and Randall Cobb signed with the Jets in free agency. Tight end Robert Tonyan has joined the Bears. Lewis reportedly has no interest in joining the Jets due to tax reasons. It was thought he could re-sign with a young Packers offense or join the Las Vegas Raiders.
Marcedes Lewis makes an announcement
Lewis made an announcement on Twitter Sunday night. Lewis seems confident in himself and in his personal journey as he takes the next step after his time with the Packers:
“In love with the journey .. but more importantly what the journey consists of. Not being that great at something, failing, staying diligent, and then conquering that task .. starting a new journey, starting over, and then doing it again.
When you fall in love with the journey, naturally everything else takes care of itself, the goals just happen. You hit milestones, as a byproduct. Whether it’s lifting hella weight or running hella fast.
Don’t get me wrong, all that is cool, but not as gratifying as the journey and processes you go through to reach your personal best. Everything always feels better when you have to thrive in those uncomfortable spaces, and and earn what’s coming to you. I trust in that.
Bet on yourself”

When you fall in love with the journey,…

It’ll be interesting to see where Marcedes Lewis goes next in his journey. It’s possible he could retire. Or he could join another NFL team and become the first tight end to play 18 seasons.
