The Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII Parade was the site of the United States’ 49th mass shooting in 45 days on Wednesday. According to reports, one person, a local DJ with a Kansas City radio station, was killed. 22 others, including nine children, were wounded. Three suspects are currently in police custody.
The full scale of the harm caused by the deadly attack will not be realized for a while. However, there are reports coming out of Kansas City that are concerning. One of these states that there were no metal detectors or security checkpoints at the parade. In other words, anyone could have brought anything and done anything with next-to-no precautionary measures being in place.
What is even more infuriating about the situation are reports that came out prior to the event. Of course, the Chiefs are one of the most popular teams in the NFL, and not just because they are the back-to-back Super Bowl Champions.
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is dating popstar Taylor Swift, who many consider to be the best musical artist on the planet. Swift’s attendance at NFL games and the Super Bowl have created many headlines throughout the last few months, including her presence at Lambeau Field when the Chiefs played the Green Bay Packers. So intense is the reaction to Swift’s presence at these events that one Kansas City official reportedly told her not to come… for security purposes.
Taylor Swift Was Told Not to Come to the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVIII Parade
According to Brian Platt, city manager of Kansas City:
“I can’t confirm or deny but we might have already told that [to not come] to her team, just to keep everybody safe and make things a little bit easier for us.”
Obviously, Swift’s presence would not have made anyone safer. However, it is sadly ironic that she was told to stay away from the event because her presence would make people less safe.
For what it is worth, the mayor of Kansas City refuted Platt’s initial statement:
“Not true at all. We’re enchanted to welcome everyone to tomorrow’s parade and the women and men of our police department are prepared to keep all safe. We’ll have a great championship celebration for our Chiefs!”
