The Marquette Golden Eagles have started the season off well. A big part of their hot start is sophomore guard Kam Jones. He has been the focal point of the offense. The Golden Eagles had a great week last week going 2-0. A win over North Carolina Central was expected but they also went to Notre Dame and handily beat that team. Because of his performance, Kam Jones was awarded Big East Player of the Week.
Something to prove.

Kam Jones Wins Big East Player Of The Week
Jones had a big week this week. He averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Against Notre Dame, he scored 25 points and added 6 rebounds. A big part of his impact will not show up on many stat sheets. This week he had 16 deflections. While he himself only recorded two steals this week, his deflections led to other players getting steals, and a general disruption of the opponent’s offense. This was a well-earned award.
Marquette Playing Well This Season
The Golden Eagles have played very well this season. While they have three losses, all of them are to ranked teams. One of them was to no. 1 ranked Purdue and another was an overtime loss to no. 22 Wisconsin. These are not blowout losses but close games that could’ve gone either way. They have an easier part of their schedule upcoming. If they can string together some wins, I expect Marquette to crack the top 25 soon.
Basketball is a game where one player can get hot and carry a team. Kam Jones is that kind of player. If Kam Jones can win Big East Player of the Week throughout the season, Marquette should be in contention for a Big East title.
