Even Aaron Rodgers himself admits that he was in a dark place after he learned that he had suffered a potentially season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into his highly-anticipated New York Jets debut. As a matter of fact, the four-time NFL MVP revealed on Friday at The Pat McAfee Show that the aftermath of his injury led to “one of the toughest 24-hour stretches I’ve had in my life.”
Aaron Rodgers on Achilles Injury: ‘Lots of Dark Frustration’
By his own admission, Rodgers went through a full array of emotions throughout this devastating turn of events. You can’t fault this man from the same after such a heartbreaking twist in this new chapter in his career. Nevertheless, the 39-year-old has been able to rise above all this to see the silver lining:
“Lot of sadness, lot of tears, lot of dark frustration, anger, the gamut of emotions, but the sun rose the next day and I found myself in L.A., had surgery on Wednesday, and since then I’ve been feeling better,” Rodgers said, via Nick Shook of NFL.com.
It’s going to be an extremely hard road ahead for Rodgers, who will now need to make a lot of sacrifices and put in a lot of hard work just to be able to give him a chance to get back on the field.
Aaron Rodgers Speaks Out on Unconventional Procedure
Speaking of surgery, reports emerged over the weekend that Rodgers had opted to undergo a “a relatively new process designed to have an athlete fully recovered in as little as four months from what is normally a season-ending injury.” The procedure does have some risks, but it also reportedly lessens the likelihood that the Jets quarterback will need to undergo future surgery to address the same injury.
The 39-year-old has now spoken out about going under the knife as well as the tough rehab prospect he faces ahead. At this point, Rodgers remains adamant on his imminent return to top form:
“There’s a lot of different ideas about the overall length of the rehab, I think what I’d like to say is, just because nobody’s ever done it in a certain way doesn’t mean it’s not possible,” Rodgers said. “I definitely have some odds stacked against me based on age, but I like it. Stack all the odds up against me and see what happens.
“My entire focus and dedication is about acquiring the most information and adding to what I’ve already put together as a pretty damn good rehab plan that’s going to, I think, shock some people.”
Coming fron anyone else, this statement would sound a tad arrogant and self-assured. However, this is Aaron Rodgers we’re talking about here. He has done it in the past, and it appears that he’s going to “shock” the entire football world again in the not-so-distant future.
