During the 2022 CFL season, Rourke made his debut in the starting role for the BC Lions on June 11th. A few weeks later, on June 25th, he set the record for most passing yards by a Canadian quarterback in a CFL game with 436. He would go on to break his own record multiple times throughout the season. In addition, Rourke finished the season with a completion percentage of 78.7%, which was a new CFL record.
During his outstanding 2022 CFL season, Rourke threw for 3,349 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Despite missing a few games due to injury, he still won the CFL award for Most Outstanding Canadian.
After his breakout season, Rourke had workouts with 13 NFL teams. Per CFL-NFL transfer rules, he was ruled eligible to sign with a team as of January 9, 2023, ultimately deciding to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
