Is It Time For Aaron Rodgers (39) To Retire?

Buffalo Bills defensive end Leonard Floyd (56) sacks New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) early in the first quarter during the home opener at MetLife Stadium on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in East Rutherford. Rodgers was carted off the field after being hit.

All it took for Aaron Rodgers’s season to possibly end with the New York Jets was just four snaps after getting sacked in the first quarter against the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers had to be taken into a blue medical tent and then was carted off into the locker room.

His x-rays came back negative, but the Jets coaches fear his season is over with a torn Achilles injury. Aaron Rodgers is 39 years old and he is going to be 40 years old by the time this season ends. There are some questions about his future now after this latest obstacle for him. Is it time for Rodgers to retire from the NFL or should he try and come back for next season and help out the New York Jets?

Aaron Rodgers Will Have Tons of Money Coming Into His Contract

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) runs onto the field to face the Buffalo Bills in the home opener at MetLife Stadium on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in East Rutherford.

With his age, you would think he would maybe retire from the game of football after his latest injury. However, he is still under contract with the Jets for at least two more seasons, according to Spotrac. In 2024, he would be owed over $38 million of yearly cash according to Spotrac and in 2025, he would be owed over $37 million of yearly cash according to Spotrac.

Money is the only thing that will probably keep him out of retirement after this season. However, he has nothing else left to prove in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers has won four MVPs, been a 10-time pro bowler, a four-time first-team all-pro, a one-time second-team all-pro, a two-time passing touchdowns leader, a one-time NFL completion percentage leader, a Super Bowl Champion, and a Super Bowl MVP.

In his NFL career, he has played in 231 games and completed 65.3% of his passes for 59,055 yards, 475 touchdowns, and 105 interceptions in the regular season. In the postseason, Rodgers completed 6.7% of his passes for 5,894 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

However, the only thing that Aaron Rodgers may want to prove at this point is winning another Super Bowl with another franchise other than the Green Bay Packers, like Tom Brady, did when he left the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rodgers retiring after the 2023 season can’t be ruled out, but it probably won’t happen because of money and he loves his new teammates on the New York Jets also.
