Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo did not play in the 120-87 preseason loss on Sunday against the Detroit Pistons. It will be interesting to see if he will play at all in the preseason leading up to the first game of the season against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Philadelphia and Milwaukee will both have high expectations this season. Both teams flamed out in the first round of the NBA Playoffs a season ago.

Antetokounmpo missed the playoffs last season because of a calf injury. He also missed the final three games of the regular season because of it. Giannis Antetokounmpo injured his calf during a regular season game against the Boston Celtics.

There have been times in his NBA career that his health has betrayed him at times. Giannis Antetokounmpo said on NBA Media Day last week:

“Me personally, I’m trying to focus on myself as much as I can, focus on my team. Focus on my body, try to stay healthy. I’m just going to start with that: I really don’t pay attention or let my mind travel to different places that I cannot control. I try to stay right here, and the most important thing for me is to stay healthy and to be available, so that’s all I think about right now.”

He needs to stay healthy this season and it will be very important for him and this basketball team. Damian Lillard missed time during the playoffs last season against the Indiana Pacers because of injury as well. Khris Middleton is currently sidelined due to an ankle injury and Gary Trent injured himself against the Detroit Pistons.

    First-Round Disappointment

Over the last couple of seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks have faced major disappointment in the postseason. Milwaukee lost to the Miami Heat in five games in the first round in 2022-2023. In 2023-2024, they lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games.

The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the oldest teams in the NBA. If the team gets betrayed by injuries that occur to Giannis Antetokounmpo or other players this season, it could be another early playoff exit for them and then there will be other questions for this franchise moving forward also.
