It’s still too early in the season for Green Bay Packers fans to panic about their team’s playoff hopes. While it is rough that the team had to drop their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, it wasn’t like there weren’t any positives to take away from their performance.
However, it’s not hard to blame some of them for panicking when Jordan Love was sidelined with a knee injury late in the game. While some are still hopeful their star QB will be miraculously available against the Indianapolis Colts, it’s safer to assume that he’ll be cheering his teammates on from the sidelines.
If Love can’t suit up for the Packers in time, there will be immense pressure on the rest of the offense to step up and make plays in his stead. One analyst drove home the point as they prepare to face the Indianapolis Colts.
Analyst emphasizes the importance of the Green Bay Packers’ Love-less performance in Week 2 for their Lombardi aspirations
Yardbarker’s Mike Santa Barbara wrote a piece that questioned whether the Green Bay Packers would be able to perform without their star QB.
He highlighted Malik Willis’ performance under center. The former Tennessee Titan is yet to make any meaningful gains in his pro career, and his first start with the Packers will be indicative of whether he has what it takes to survive in the NFL.
However, he also mentioned that the Packers are more than just their backup QB if Love isn’t in the picture:
While not impossible to climb out of, it would put Green Bay at a distinct disadvantage. Only six teams in NFL history have made the playoffs after starting the season with three straight losses — the Houston Texans in 2023 being the last.
The Packers can’t win the Lombardi Trophy over the next few weeks. But, if they slide without Love in the lineup, they could lose it long before the journey starts.
There aren’t many standout names in the Packers roster if you take Love out of the equation, so the team must take their stand against the Colts if they want to be taken seriously as Super Bowl contenders. Fans will be hopeful that Matt LaFleur has built the team enough to win despite the adversities.
