The Green Bay Packers have been at the center of two massive trades over the last two off-seasons. It is clear they aren’t afraid of making a big move. Reports have surfaced over the last few days that one 24-year-old wide receiver may be on the trading block who could impact the Packers’ offense in a huge way.
The Green Bay Packers got unfortunate injury news on Friday afternoon. Head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that wide receiver Christian Watson is out for Sunday’s Week One matchup against the Chicago Bears. Could the Packers make a move if there are long-term injury issues at wide receiver?
Green Bay Packers land Wide Receiver Tee Higgins From The Cincinnati Bengals After Christian Watson Injury News In This Proposal
Gridiron Heroics reported how Tee Higgins currently has “no plans” to get extended by the Bengals:
The Bengals and Higgins have not reached a contract extension and the wideout is not expected to be part of the team’s long-term plans, according to the Enquirer. In the offseason, he was offered a contract, but this offer was reportedly not as good as what he could received on the open market. A franchise tag will be available to Higgins next year if the Bengals decide to use it.
Higgins has been one of the Bengals’ most productive players under head coach Zac Taylor since joining the team three years ago. The wide receiver has caught 215 passes for 3,028 yards and 19 touchdowns with the Bengals. With over 1,000 receiving yards in both of his previous seasons, Higgins has been a consistent option for Joe Burrow.
Could The Packers Actually Trade For Tee Higgins?
A few years ago, many Packers fans hoped the team would select wide receiver Tee Higgins in the NFL Draft. A trade could turn back the clock and bring him to the Green and Gold in 2023 and beyond.
Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reported earlier this off-season that the Bengals may trade Higgins this off-season. That report became much more relevant in the last few days.
Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs have both proven to be talented wide receivers, but Higgins would be more of a possession wideout than either of them are. Depending on the price range, this could be what puts the Packers’ offense over the top. What would the Packers have to offer to get the 2020 second round (33rd overall) draft pick? Here is what we think:
Green Bay Packers Receive:
- WR Tee Higgins
Cincinnati Bengals Receive:
- 2024 Conditional Second Round Draft Pick (becomes a first if Aaron Rodgers plays 65% of his snaps in 2023)
