In order for the Green Bay Packers to take the next step towards Super Bowl contention, they need to improve their passing offense. Running back Josh Jacobs certainly brings an element to the running game that Green Bay has not had for a very long time, but Jordan Love and the Packers wide receivers were unable to match the standard that their Pro Bowl running set.
Of course, Green Bay faces the probability of playing most, if not all, of the 2025 NFL season without Christian Watson, who tore his ACL in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears. Additionally, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks each dropped nine passes this season, with each having drop percentages near or at 12.0%.
All this to say that the Packers are likely going to be looking to add to/improve their wide receiver room this offseason, whether by free agency, trade, or the NFL Draft (or a combination of the three).
The Green Bay Packers Met with Hawaii Wide Receiver Steve McBride
According to Easton Butler of Packer Report, Green Bay was one of eight teams that met with wide receiver Steve McBride at the Hula Bowl:
The Packers were 1/8 teams to meet with Hawaii WR/RS Steven McBride at the #TropicalBowl . The meetings that stood out were with the Dolphins, Falcons and Bears. (Other meetings were Bills, Raiders, Cowboys, Lions). pic.twitter.com/0EiZumOe5j

McBride, who had just 21 receptions for 128 yards and no touchdowns in three seasons with Kansas, is coming off of a season with Hawaii that saw him catch 63 passes for 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns.
In addition, McBride has some experience as a kick returner, something that Green Bay looks for when deciding which wide receivers to select in the NFL Draft or to sign afterwards.
However, there is one glaring issue in McBride’s past that may keep him off the Packers’ board.
Steve McBride Was Suspended This Past Year Following an Arrest
According to the Star Advertiser, “UH officials suspended McBride following his July 20 arrest on an accusation of physically abusing a household member. The alleged incident was downgraded to a misdemeanor. No charges have been filed.”
Green Bay famously left star wide receiver Rashee Rice off of their draft board in 2023 because of character concerns. Based on his subsequent behavior and arrest following the start of his NFL career, it appears the Packers made the right choice.
While there is obviously a great deal about McBride’s situation that is not known to the public, it is worth remembering that Green Bay does not typically sign or draft players with these kinds of incidents on their record.
