Green Bay Packers second-year wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks did not have the breakout season he was hoping for after having a promising rookie season. Wicks had an issue earlier this season with dropping a lot of passes.

He was a former fifth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft from Virginia. Dontayvion Wicks has a chance to showcase himself this weekend in the Wild Card Round against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dairylandexpress.com writer Jason Schnadl thinks that Wicks has a chance to have a big game this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles. If Green Bay is going to pull off the upset in this one, Dontayvion Wicks is going to have to perform well. Schnadl said:

“But one player that everyone seems to be sleeping on is second-year wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks. He may have only posted 415 receiving yards in the regular season (ranking No. 5 on the Packers), but Christian Watson’s absence could make Wicks the most valuable receiver on the field for Green Bay. That’s doubly true when you consider how the Green Bay offense matches up with the Philadelphia secondary.”

Wicks’s full numbers this season are 39 receptions for 415 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 10.6 yards per reception. Wicks was targeted 76 times during the regular season.

Christian Watson’s Absence Can Make Wicks Shine

All season long, Wicks has played the role of the fourth wide receiver on the Packers. With Christian Watson out with a torn ACL, Wicks will be the third wide receiver behind Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed. The former Virginia Cavaliers wide receiver finally has a chance to showcase himself as a starting wide receiver in a playoff game.

If Wicks struggles against the Philadelphia Eagles early, maybe Malik Heath or Bo Melton will get some snaps as well. Dontayvion Wicks will need to show in this game that he belongs with the Packers in the long term. If he does not play well, Wicks could be a wide receiver that Green Bay trades this offseason.
