The Green Bay Packers sign a preseason fan favorite to the practice squad
Micah Abernathy will be staying with the Green Bay Packers. The move comes just a few days after news came out that the Packers were cutting Abernathy from the 53-man roster. The undrafted safety has bounced around the NFL and USFL before having a productive preseason with the Packers.
Abernathy was signed to the practice squad on Friday as the team released cornerback Rico Gafford. The Tennessee Volunteers product will wear the number 34 for the Packers this season.
Abernathy became a Packer fan favorite during the team’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. He recorded an impressive interception and also made some sweet tackles in the team’s win over the Saints.

“It’s definitely crazy but it’s what I prayed for,” he said. “I’m happy for the opportunity that the Packers have given me. I’m happy for the opportunity to play in the USFL. I don’t know. I’m just grateful. I’ve just got to thank God for it…
