The Green Bay Packers announced Monday they signed a weapon for the offense ahead of their first full team practice of OTAs. The Packers’ offense will have many new faces on the team learning the offense and fighting for a starting spot. A new running back will join the team.
The Green Bay Packers sign Emanuel Wilson
According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, Emanuel Wilson signed with the Packers Monday. Wilson was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted rookie free agent after April’s draft. He didn’t survive the roster after the Broncos’ rookie minicamp, as they waived him last week.
Wilson played college football at Fort Valley State. According to his draft profile in Sports Illustrated, Wilson had an impressive college career:
“In two seasons at FVSU, played in 16 games and carried 331 times, for 2,087 rushing yards (6.3 average) and 22 rushing touchdowns, along with 31 catches, for 278 receiving yards (9.4 average) and two touchdowns. Previously, he played at Johnson C. Smith, where he was named CIAA Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 after recording 1,040 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Wilson competes for a spot on the Packers’ 53-man roster. The Packers’ top two spots are taken for sure with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. The Packers could use another shifty running back as a pass-catching option for quarterback Jordan Love. However, Wilson had limited production in the passing game during his time at Fort Valley State.
Wilson appears to be a physical running back that can be utilized in short-down situations. But when Wilson hits a hole, he can be hard to catch and bring down.
