Green Bay Packers Get Massive Salary Cap Break From The NFL (Report)

The Green Bay Packers may be out from Aaron Rodgers’ contract in 2024, however, they aren’t in the clear yet.  The team already has over $15 million in dead money in 2024 before any additional roster cuts. Around $19 million will be added to that figure if David Bakhtiari is released.

While there are certainly other moves the Packers can make, the NFL may have just made it a lot easier on them.

The Green Bay Packers Likely To Get Massive Salary Cap Break From The NFL

According to Freddie Boston of Lombardi Ave:

Many projections, including the current Spotrac numbers, have the 2024 NFL salary cap sitting at $242.5 million. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, it could be significantly higher.

“Another source, with a proven record of accuracy in these matters, says it will be closer to $250 million than to $243 million,” writes Florio.

Adding $4-7 million would help the Packers, especially if they were preparing for a cap of around the $243 million mark. Green Bay wouldn’t have to make as many moves to get under the cap and would have more flexibility in free agency.

It would make retaining Aaron Jones and Preston Smith far easier and could mean they don’t need to restructure their deals.

The final salary cap figures for 2024 are on the way. Anything closer to $250 million would make the offseason work a little more comfortable for Brian Gutekunst and Russ Ball as the Packers continue to overcome various salary cap obstacles.

The Packers Could Be Active In Free Agency/Trade Deals This Off-Season

General Manager Brian Gutekunst made this statement earlier this off-season:

If Brian Gutekunst is “dangling” draft picks for veterans under contract in 2024, who would you want to see the #Packers target?

    — Peter Bukowski (@Peter_Bukowski) February 1, 2024

Last season the Packers showed real interest in not only trading for star running back Jonathan Taylor, but committing to a large contract with him.  It is likely the Packers will be willing to move around money this off-season if they see they right player become available.

Getting another $7 Million in cap space could be massive in an attempt to do that.
