The Green Bay Packers are currently down Aaron Jones in the backfield due to a hamstring injury. The fanbase has expressed frustration with A.J. Dillon in the backfield, but some have also pointed issues with the offensive line in the running game.
The other current running backs on the depth chart are rookie Emanuel Wilson and Patrick Taylor Jr. Even if Aaron Jones gets healthy, they still want a different running back behind Jones. There have been some rumors about landing Cam Akers from the Los Angeles Rams via trade or maybe trying to get Jonathan Taylor from the Indianapolis Colts. Who are some of the running backs that’s currently a free agent that the Green Bay Packers could look at to bring in?
Leonard Fournette would be a solid fit for the Green Bay Packers
The number one running back who is currently a free agent is Leonard Fournette. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season and has been with them over the past couple of years. Fournette has been linked with the Minnesota Vikings because of the struggles with the backfield and Alexander Mattison hasn’t been what they thought.
Fournette going to the Green Bay Packers would be a great fit because he would still fit the mold of using two running backs in the backfield even when Aaron Jones gets healthy. Fournette is a massive upgrade over A.J. Dillon.
Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt is the second-best running back out on the free agent market. He was with the Cleveland Browns last season and expect him to receive a call from Cleveland after the Nick Chubb injury, but will see if Hunt decides to play for them or not.
Kareem Hunt can catch passes out of the backfield like Aaron Jones can. A.J. Dillon is not as effective at doing that for the Green Bay Packers. Hunt also has an extra gear of burst in the open field.
Darrell Henderson
Darrell Henderson has played in his NFL career so far with the Los Angeles Rams. He is currently a free agent and has been in a running back by committee system and it would be nothing new for him. Henderson is very similar to A.J. Dillon by being a power runner.
Darrell Henderson can be a very good number-two running back. He isn’t known for being the top running back, but Henderson can help out the Packers. A season ago, he had 401 yards rushing on 99 carries and four touchdowns in 10 games played. Darrell Henderson averaged 4.0 yards per carry and that is what the Green Bay Packers would be looking for in the running game.
Mark Ingram
Mark Ingram is 33 years old and can probably still be effective at running with the football. He played for the New Orleans Saints last season. Ingram played in 10 games and rushed for 233 yards on 62 carries and one touchdown. Ingram probably still has some game left but is probably closer to retirement.
This is still one of the free agents out there, but the Green Bay Packers probably want to bring in someone younger than him as well.
