One thing became painfully clear for Green Bay Packers fans after Jordan Love’s return during their Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings: Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff should have double-checked their decision to rush their starting QB back to the starting lineup.
While it’s true that the Utah State alum did have an impressive four-TD performance, his three interceptions made it clear that he didn’t shake off the rustiness from being sidelined due to his knee injury.
While some fans are frustrated with how the 25-year-old QB played, they also recognize that the Packers felt that their best chance of getting Love back to his best is by giving him the snaps he badly needs.
His poor accuracy also questions whether he’s in the right condition to lead the Packers against another tough opponent in the Los Angeles Rams. LaFleur has since broken his silence on Love’s status for the game.
Matt LaFleur shares his honest thoughts on Jordan Love’s availability for the Green Bay Packers vs. LA Rams
LaFleur was asked about Love’s performance after the game and any points of improvement for the 25-year-old signal-caller moving forward. Based on his answer, many Green Bay fans can expect Love to start when the Packers visit SoFi Stadium.
Per Heavy’s Beth Mishler-Elmore:
“Sometimes, you just have to go out there and play,” LaFleur said about his QB. “I think he’ll work himself through it. I’m not worried about it. He’ll do everything in his power to get it corrected, and I have full confidence that he will be better.”
Love’s Week 4 performance versus Minnesota should give Packers fans a bit of hope moving forward. While he did throw three picks, he threw for an impressive 389 yards on 83% accuracy. Love will be a dangerous QB for Sean McVay’s defense if he manages to iron out his accuracy issues throughout the week.
However, that sentiment is easier said than done. Love cannot carry the team on his own. LaFleur and the rest of the Packers defense (specifically the pass rush) should make the necessary adjustments to disrupt the Rams offense and give the still-recovering Love more leeway during the game.
