The Milwaukee Brewers will face the New York Mets in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series on Tuesday afternoon at home with the first pitch scheduled for 4:32 p.m. CT. Milwaukee won the National League Central Division title for the second consecutive season.
Manager Pat Murphy for the Brewers or Carlos Mendoza for the Mets could very well win the National League Manager of the Year Award. Murphy also spoke to the media ahead of the game 1 matchup.
Milwaukee Brewers Manager Pat Murphy Speaks To The Media Ahead Of the New York Mets Series
Ahead of the Game 1 matchup, Pat Murphy recognized the fact that the New York Mets had to play a doubleheader on Monday against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets needed to win one game in the doubleheader against the Braves to make the playoffs and they did just that. Murphy said to Anthony DiComo, the Mets beat writer for MLB.com:
“What they did yesterday was significant. They had to go down there and win. And they did. … I think that injects a tremendous amount of confidence into a team that’s been as good as anybody in the second half. They have a team full of stars. That’s why they’re so scary. It’s a team full of great players.”
The Brewers finished with a 93-69 record this season and the Mets finished with an 89-73 record. Milwaukee beat New York 5-1 during the regular season.
Brewers Looking To Avoid What Happened Last Year
Last season, the Brewers were swept in the National League Wild Card Round against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Milwaukee doesn’t want to have the same thing happen to them this season against the New York Mets.
New York was a better team at this point this year than Arizona was last season. However, the Diamondbacks made it to the World Series before they lost to the Texas Rangers. The New York Mets are back playing the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after they were just there this past weekend. Pat Murphy needs to have his guys ready for the Brewers because Carlos Mendoza and the Mets have nothing to lose also.
