The Green Bay Packers are working to make a transition from an ‘overachiever’ to a legitimate contender going from the 2023 to 2024 season. In 2023-24 the Packers came four points shy of going to the NFC Championship, with an extremely young team and dynamic and explosive offense they look to take the steps towards championships.
Building a Superbowl-winning season starts in the offseason. The Green Bay Packers took to free agency (over 100 million dollars in spending) and 11 draft selections in the 2024 draft to elevate the squad before offseason activities. With OTAs underway and preseason imminent the Packers have announced what other ingredients will go into the preseason training regimen.
Green Bay Packers Schedule Preseason Joint Practice With Denver Broncos
The Green Bay Packers have an extensive history of joint practices in preseason. In 2022 we saw the Packers work with the New Orleans Saints as well as the future trade partner New York Jets in 2021 preseason joint practices. In 2023 we saw the Packers execute a two-day practice with the New England Patriots.
Now in 2024, Packers head coach Matt Lafleur talked about the newly revealed preseason joint practices in a media session directly after the Organized Team Activities on Tuesday, May 22nd. He talked about how productive and important joint practices can be.
“I think it allows you to play your starters a little bit longer in a little bit more controlled setting where you’re not putting them at risk as much. You get a lot of great work. It’s great going against the other team in terms of their starters to see kind of where you’re at. It gives you a great gauge and quite honestly it breaks up the monotony of camp.”
The Denver Broncos are home to a legendary head coach Sean Payton, a valuable brain to pick for any player or coach. As the coaching pedigree, the Broncos also have a talented corner in Patrick Surtain II. A perfect test for the young and talented wide receivers on the Green Bay Packers roster. This test is scheduled just before their August 18th preseason game.
Packers Follow Up Broncos Week With Baltimore Ravens
The Packers’ third and final preseason game comes against a historically great preseason team and perennial winner Baltimore Ravens. This would mark the eighth joint practice in the Lafleur era. With a reputable and successful coach, John Harbaugh, as well as the dynamic reigning MVP, Lamar Jackson, the Green Bay Packers will get a healthy dose of talented friendly competition.
“I love the exposure to new systems, new challenges,” LaFleur said. “It allows you to play your starters a little bit longer in a more controlled setting…you get a lot of great work.”
In an effort to keep things friendly, both of the Green Bay Packers joint practices will be just one day. When the Packers joined the Patriots in 2023, things got chippy by the second day. The Ravens were also involved in a joint practice scuffle last year with the Commanders. After their divisional round loss as the number one seed in the AFC, the Packers will likely see an ultra-motivated Ravens squad.
