The Green Bay Packers look to leap to established contender status after their impressive first season under quarterback Jordan Love. After moving on from long-term QB Aaron Rodgers, the Packers exceeded expectations becoming the youngest team in the Super Bowl era to win a playoff game. Much Thanks to the emergence of Jordan Love late in the season, the Packers offense was statistically one of the most lethal offenses in the NFL for the latter half of the 2023-24 season. With a contract negotiation in the works for the 25-year-old rising star, the Packers look to do everything in their power to maximize his potential as a starting QB.
Green Bay Packers Train Jordan Love To Take Over 2-Minute Playcalling

With mandatory minicamps in full swing, we get to see the Green Bay Packers ramp up into preseason form. Putting the building blocks together to make a successful season is a difficult task for any coaching staff, though those stresses can be alleviated by smart players who act as coaches on the field. After a nearly two-decade career with Green Bay, one of those unique players has since been traded to the New York Jets. Since Aaron Rodgers’s departure, Matt Lafleur has progressed in his grooming of Jordan Love to be a great pass-thrower and soon play-caller.
The two-minute drill is arguably the most important part of a team’s game plan (besides the red zone). For teams blessed with an elite quarterback that area of the game gets much easier as they can act like an on-field coach and playcaller. Aaron Rodgers took on the bulk of two-minute playcalling duties for the back half of his NFL career, circumventing one more person to speed up the process and keep a team on the same page. Now two years after his departure, Jordan Love has earned the ability to learn the elite skill.
LaFleur has no intention of giving up play-calling but explains how he’s trying to help Love’s development.
“All of us are in constant communication on the headset,” said LaFleur. “I feel like we kind of do it together anyway. I just want him to experience it a little bit more. And so we put them in some of those two minute situations. I just want to see kind of what he was thinking.”- Dennis Kraus of Spectrum News 1
This step in Jordan Love’s development tells everybody that Matt Lafleur (as well as the rest of the coaching staff) believes in Love. Given that Love’s contract gets signed this season, the Packers system is ready to build for the now and the future. If Love is up for the challenge of executing at every level in crunch time, then he will likely set himself up for MVP levels of success, much like the hall of fame QB that came before him.
