The Green Bay Packers made the move at the kicker position on Tuesday morning. According to a source that told The Athletic’s Matt Schneiderman, Anders Carlson has been released by the Packers.
He was in a kicking competition all offseason long with Greg Joseph and other kickers. Carlson did not have a smooth sailing training camp either.
Green Bay Packers Anders Carlson Only Lasted One Season With the Team
Carlson only lasted one season with the Packers. He was a rookie last season. The regular season was not the problem last season for him. His postseason performance last year is why the Packers brought in other competition this offseason.
In a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, he missed a 32-yard field goal wide right. That may have been another reason why the Packers may have released him.
Fans React
To no surprise, this Packers fanbase reacted to the news right away when they decided to release Carlson from the team. This is what some of them had to say:
Brian Gutekunst has drafted three specialists since becoming the Packers’ GM in 2018: JK Scott, Hunter Bradley and Anders Carlson. 0-for-3.

Anders Carlson had to work pretty hard to lose that kicker “competition” and tip your cap, the bastard pulled it off

As a packer fan who hates Anders Carlson wtf are we doing. He did not need to get cut this early

With Carlson not being on the roster, it probably means that Greg Joseph will be the kicker for Green Bay for the 2024 season. Joseph was the kicker last season for the Minnesota Vikings. He has been a reliable kicker in the NFL for several seasons. Green Bay wanted someone reliable as a field goal kicker rather than holding their breath every time someone else kicks.
