The Green Bay Packers selected running back Marshawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of USC. Throughout the offseason, the coaching staff could not wait to get him onto the field and see what he could do.
At the start of training camp, Lloyd was listed third on the Packers depth chart behind Josh Jacobs and A.J. Dillon. With the preseason in the rearview mirror, the running back depth chart for the Green Bay Packers will be a lot different entering Week 1.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Is Expected To Start the 2024 Season On Injured Reserve
Green Bay has to cut the roster to 53 players by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. The running back position is the more interesting position on the roster. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, he believes that the Packers rookie running back will start the 2024 season on injured reserve because he is dealing with a hamstring injury.
It is such a shame that Lloyd is most likely heading to injured reserve because he will miss at least the first month of the season, if not longer. With this injury, it appears as if Emanuel Wilson will be the number two running back for the Green Bay Packers to start the 2024 season.
Josh Jacobs would be the starter, which would also mean that A.J. Dillon would make the 53-man roster because of the Lloyd injury. Whenever Lloyd returns from injury, he will have to earn his way onto the field because Josh Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson will be the primary backs to start the season.
Fans React
Packers fans had interesting reactions to seeing the news of Lloyd potentially starting the 2024 season on injured reserve. This is what some of them had to say on Twitter:
It’d be really unfortunate if Packers rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd ended up on IR to start the year. He’s already missed SO much practice time this summer. Going on IR would mean he misses another month.

RB3. MarShawn Lloyd
– Day 2 draft capital
– Great athlete at combine
– Utilized as 3-down back
– Projected top 10 scoring offense
– Machine at forcing missed tacklesAfter an impressive combine, Lloyd was drafted in the top 90 to be the explosive complement to Josh Jacobs. pic.twitter.com/On7DIMbHvN

I did not see this coming.
MarShawn Lloyd is starting the season on the IR, which means he will miss the first 4 games.
There was a chance that Lloyd was going to eat into Josh Jacobs’ load, but after suffering a hamstring injury a couple weeks ago, he won’t be ready for Week… https://t.co/dT3EP5lUqw

Green Bay fans are sad to see this happen to him to start the 2024 season. Whenever he does come back, they will try to get him involved in the offense.
