The Green Bay Packers traded away cornerback Rasul Douglas and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft earlier in the week to the Buffalo Bills for a third-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Douglas spoke to the media with the Buffalo Bills for the first time and talked about what happened on Tuesday during the day he was traded from Green Bay.
He told the media about being traded away from the Packers:
“My initial reaction? At first, because [G.M. Brian Gutekunst] called me . . . I thought it was like a joke. . . . [H]e didn’t say too much. He just was like, ‘We’re trading you.’ And then it was over, the conversation was over. I just hung up. And then like [CEO] Mark Murphy called me. And he got a voice that’s like, you know that it’s him. So I’m like, ‘Oh, now, this ain’t no joke.”
At first, Douglas thought this was some sort of prank until Murphy called him and knew it was serious. He had no idea that he was going to get traded. When it happened, Rasul Douglas and running back Aaron Jones shared an emotional moment when the trade went down.
Former Green Bay Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas is Now in a Better Situation With the Buffalo Bills
Green Bay this season is 2-5 and possibly not going anywhere in terms of postseason play. As for the Buffalo Bills, they are 5-3 on the year and can very well contend for a Super Bowl (LVIII) this season. The Super Bowl (LVIII) will be on Sunday, February 11, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at Allegiant Stadium (home of the Las Vegas Raiders).
Buffalo is trying to catch the Miami Dolphins (6-2) for the AFC East crown. Douglas is also now with former Packers safety Micah Hyde. Rasul Douglas, on the year before getting traded to the Buffalo Bills, had 32 tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and six pass deflections.
The Green Bay Packers will miss him in the secondary, and he is 28 years old, but Green Bay is rebuilding. Douglas should make his debut with the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals (4-4). General manager Brian Gutekunst wasn’t going to trade him until he got some calls around the league and got an offer he couldn’t refuse to pass up on.
