The Green Bay Packers fell to 2-3 after their Monday Night Football loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week Five. As Week Six came to a close, the Lions kept their foot on the gas by beating the Buccaneers 20-6 and moving to 5-1 on the season.
The Vikings downed the Bears to move to 2-4 on the year while the Bears fell to 1-5. The Packers are in the middle of a very important season. Firstly, they are trying to determine if Jordan Love can be their quarterback of the future. Secondly, they are trying to put a young team around the quarterback both offensively and defensively. Rashan Gary is one of those players that Green Bay hopes to build around for years.
The Green Bay Packers Get Significant Update On When Rashan Gary May Sign His Extension With Team
The Green Bay Packers may end up signing Gary in the near future, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler:
“The Packers typically try to lock up key players late in their contract years, so it wouldn’t surprise if the Packers make an aggressive play to secure Gary in November or December,” Fowler wrote.
After tearing his ACL midway through last season, Gary is still working his way back to full strength. Despite playing in all four games this season, he has not been an every-down player. Thus far, he has logged nine tackles and 4.5 sacks.
Green Bay selected the 25-year-old from Michigan with the 12th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Packers certianly eased Gary into the league but their patience paid off as he has turned into one of the best pass rushers in the NFL.
Gary broke out in 2021, recording 47 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. It is no secret that Gary will be in the long-term plans for the team moving forward. The pending contract extension will be the “proof” both sides need make that commitment real.
