The Green Bay Packers, like all other NFL teams, are like a family to the players that have donned their uniform throughout the many decades they have been in existence. Indeed, former players still get together for events and gatherings to reminisce about the glory days of playing together on the gridiron. Perhaps best of all, they get together, also, to raise money for various charities and organizations around the state of Wisconsin.
In recent days, a couple of former Packers players, who happen to also be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, have taken it upon themselves to use their voices and platforms to advocate for one of their former teammates to also be inducted to the Hall in which he belongs.
Green Bay Packers Legend LeRoy Butler Believes Sterling Sharpe Should Be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Many Packers fans are of the belief that former wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, who played in Green Bay for seven seasons between 1988 and 1994, should have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame a long time ago. One of Sharpe’s former teammates, safety LeRoy Butler, also agrees with this sentiment. He recently posted on X (formerly Twitter):
It’s My opinion that my teammate, STERLING SHARPE,respectfully should get the @ProFootballHOF ✊🏾 knock! In 2025! He was getting 100 catches in the early 90’s back to back season,i must add,i think it’s finally Time for 84 join the 🐐conversation if he didn’t get hurt!!

Sharpe is still considered one of the best wide receivers in franchise history, and had he not gotten injured would have been in the conversation for being the best wide receiver of all time. He still ranks third in team history in receiving yards (8,134), fourth in receiving touchdowns (65), and third in receptions (595).
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Also Thinks Sterling Sharpe Should Be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Last week, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Packers legendary quarterback Brett Favre also took to social media to advocate for Sharpe’s candidacy for induction. He said:
My career would have not been as productive nor long, if not for Sterling Sharpe my first 2 years. Sterling was a man amongst boys, he also was one of the smartest players in my 20 years. I think 84 without question should be in Canton. Career cut short by neck injury! 84HOF.”
Packers legend Gilbert Brown agrees. Last year, he told radio host Earl Ingram:
“It’s so many just politics, man. Why does it take so long for Jerry Kramer to get in? Why does it take so long for LeRoy Butler to get in? I mean, 75 [NFL anniversary team], all that stuff that he was one. But the thing that is most disappointing thing I talk to everybody about is I am so p—ed off that Sterling Sharpe has not been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.
“He’s in the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame, that’s good. But to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, why is that? His numbers: beautiful. His tenacity on the field: beautiful. I don’t know what he did to p— somebody off, but I am shocked, ashamed that he is not in the NFL Hall of Fame.”
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Packers are like a family to those that have donned their uniform and have played together. Sharpe may not be in the Hall of Fame [yet], but he sure does have the support of everyone he played with.
