The Green Bay Packers own the 25th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but there is one mock draft that has Green Bay trading up with the Denver Broncos to the 12th pick in the draft. The Athletic’s Ben Standig created this mock draft on Monday.
He would have the Packers moving up 13 spots in this draft class to select cornerback Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo, There is no doubt that Green Bay needs to draft a cornerback, but to move up 13 spots to draft one seems interesting.
Standing has the Packers giving up this year’s selections of 25th, 58th, 91st, and 245th overall picks to the Broncos. His reasoning for Green Bay making this move in the NFL Draft is as follows:
“Another team with 11 draft selections, the Packers move up 13 spots for arguably the best defender in the class. Mitchell dominated the pre-draft cycle after blasting off last season with the Rockets. This addition and free-agent safety Xavier McKinney bolsters a secondary that will face Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Allen and Moore twice a season.”
It is true that Green Bay does have to face a lot of elite wide receivers within the NFC North. Jaire Alexander is the top cornerback on the roster, but he was injured last season a lot. They don’t have enough depth at the position and general manager Brian Gutekunst does need to draft corners.
Mitchell is 6’0″ and weighs 196 lbs. Last season on Toledo, he recorded 41 tackles, picked off one pass, and had 18 pass deflections. Some people feel like Quinyon Mitchell is the best cornerback in this draft class.
The Green Bay Packers Moving Up 13 Spots With the Denver Broncos Doesn’t Make Any Sense At All
There is no need for the Packers to move up 13 spots in the 2024 NFL Draft with the Broncos to take a cornerback. Denver may be looking to move up themselves for a quarterback in the draft. Green Bay will have plenty of quality cornerbacks available to them with the 25th pick.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. from Missouri or Kool-Aid McKinstry from Alabama can very well be available then and both are quality starting cornerbacks. If Quinyon Mitchell is available at say 20 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, then the Green Bay Packers should make a move to trade up. Otherwise, moving up and using all of that draft capital to get a cornerback is rather silly.
