Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy couldn’t hide his shock after his team lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round on Sunday.
The Cowboys were heavy favorites in the game. Not only were they better statistically with a Top 5 offense and defense, but they were also on a 16-game winning streak at home. They went 8-0 at AT&T Stadium in the 2023 season, which made many believe that they would be able to easily take care of business in the Wild Card round.
However, the Packers showed everyone that it doesn’t matter what anyone did in the regular season. How they perform in the playoffs is what’s more important, and on Sunday, it’s Green Bay that’s the better team.
Speaking to reporters postgame after seeing his Cowboys lose 48-32, McCarthy admitted that he didn’t see such result coming. Nonetheless, he gave credit to the Packers for coming in prepared and taking advantage of the momentum they have.
McCarthy also didn’t hide his disappointment over the loss, noting that it’s really a painful result overall.
“Number one, we’re very disappointed. I don’t think anybody saw this coming. You got to give Green Bay credit. They came in here hot. And this, you just saw on film over the past month. You know, they executed, and we didn’t. So, we didn’t get it done in any of the phases. We’re hurting, we’re disappointed, every man,” McCarthy shared, via Forth Worth Star-Telegram.
True enough, it’s clear that the Green Bay Packers came in more prepared in the game. It’s also evident that they wanted the win more, as proven by how aggressive they were from start to finish.
Perhaps the Dallas Cowboys were a bit too complacent, knowing for a fact that they had a better regular season performance? Regardless, Mike McCarthy’s men simply didn’t deliver and were punished for it.
Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love Outshines Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott
One of the biggest differences in the game was the QB play of Jordan Love and Dak Prescott.
Despite making his playoff debut as a fulltime starter, Love wasn’t rattled and stayed composed throughout the game. He finished with a 16-of-21 pass completion for 272 yards and three touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers youngster also became the first player ever to have a perfect passer rating in his playoff debut.
On the other hand, Prescott was picked off twice and completed just 41 of his 60 passes for three touchdowns. While those numbers look impressive, it’s important to note that the Dallas Cowboys QB tallied most of those numbers in garbage time when the game was all but decided.
Indeed, it was quite the memorable game for the Packers, one that Mike McCarthy and his Cowboys won’t forget any time soon.
