The Green Bay Packers are 2-4 after their Week Seven loss to the Denver Broncos.  The Broncos were 1-5 going into that matchup and many believed the Packers could have won that game to catapult them into a winning streak.  This is especially true with the team coming off a bye the week before.

However, as it would turn out, the Packers aren’t the only the only team in their division going through a bit of adversity.  The Detroit Lions suffered an embarrassing 38-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.  Today it was reported that one of their starters are walking away from the team.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones announced he was stepping away from football:

“I just want to say that I have so much love and respect for the Ford Family, the city of Detroit, my teammates and coaches,” Jones wrote. “To be brief, I am stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters. Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar.”

The head coach for the Detroit Lions, Dan Campbell, had previously commented on Jones’ absence:

“Hard to say on that right now,” Campbell said when asked how long Jones would be away from the team. “All I can tell you is it’s a personal issue. Nothing serious like that, it’s something going on. But it’s just that’s where it is right now.”

In his second stint with the team, Jones, 33, has played sparingly. The team has used him mostly in the No. 5 receiver position behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond, and Jameson Williams. He has five catches for 35 yards in six games.  However, he had started four of the teams’ six games so far.

The Lions signed Jones to a five-year contract in 2016 replacing the retiring Calvin Johnson. Jones was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round in 2012.
