The Green Bay Packers offense is going to look very different in 2023 than it did in 2022. At least, one would hope so. Despite four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers being under center last season, the Packers did not play very well offensively. Of course, Rodgers was dealing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand, which probably attributed to some struggles. However, his refusal to attend offseason workouts probably did not help build connections and chemistry with his young wide receivers either.
While Rodgers previously claimed he did not need the offseason workouts because he won the NFL MVP Award two years in a row, he has since changed his tune about the importance of these activities since joining the New York Jets. Indeed, offseason activities are important for several reasons, one of which is to give otherwise unknown players a chance to make a name for themselves among coaches. That is exactly what Packers undrafted free agent wide receiver Malik Heath is doing.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Malik Heath Is Taking Advantage of His Opportunities

Every year, there seems to be an undrafted free agent that finds his way onto the Packers 53-man roster. This year, wide receiver Malik Heath is making a case for himself being that player.
Heath first came on Packers fans radar after the 2023 NFL Draft when he was given Randall Cobb’s number 18 jersey. That development is what first confirmed to fans that the fan-favorite would not be back.
Paul Bretl, who covers the Packers for PackersWire was present at OTA’s and mandatory mini camp. His observations of the roster hopeful indicate that Green Bay may have struck gold with this undrafted free agent signing:
“Whether it be during the three OTA practices that were open to the media or the two minicamp practices, there wasn’t a session that went by without Heath making at least one play.
“During the second open OTA practice, with three defenders around him, Heath made a contested downfield catch along the sidelines. In the third open OTA practice, Heath made two receptions from Sean Clifford during the two-minute drill, one on a deep out route to the right side and another on a corner route to the left side that put the offense near the red zone on what ended up being a scoring drive.”
It is vital for Heath’s roster chances that he continues to do well on the practice field. Seventh round pick Grant DuBose has yet to take the field for practice due to an undisclosed injury. When looking at Green Bay’s wide receiver room, it is easy to see the top five roles spoken for: Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Samori Toure, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks. However, if the Packers choose to take more than five wide receivers, the sixth and/or seventh spots are wide open. With DuBose otherwise unable to practice, Heath can make a push for one of those spots.
