Most signs point to a Malik Willis start at Lambeau Field this coming Sunday for the Green Bay Packers season home opener against the visiting Indianapolis Colts. A
lthough Jordan Love is yet to be ruled out of the Colts game at the time of this writing and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur hinted that there is still a minimal chance for Love to play on Sunday, the safe bet is that Willis will be under center for the Indianapolis game.
The Packers have already declared Willis as their Week 2 starter, and they’re now in the process of preparing with him with that in mind. LeFleur said that he expects Willis to be vocal about how the QB feels about the plan for the Indianapolis clash.
Via Packers.com’s editor Mike Spofford:
He’s got to communicate to us and let us know where he’s at, LaFleur said. “Certainly we’ll go through it and comb it at the end of the week and probably ‘X’ out some things if he’s not very comfortable with it, and star the things that he really likes.
“I’m confident that he’ll tell me if he’s uncomfortable with something.”
Is Malik Willis ready for the challenge as a Green Bay Packers starter?
Willis just arrived in Green Bay late last August in a trade involving the Tennessee Titans. He will now have to step up and prove himself to the Packers despite barely having experience on the field with his new team. He went just 0/1 very late in Week 1’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles when his number was called after Love got injured near the end of regulation.
Willis was a third-round pick by the Titans back in the 2022 NFL draft. He appeared in 11 games for Tennessee, including three starts.
