The Green Bay Packers defense in Week 1 of the 2024 season against the Philadelphia Eagles had similar problems to what transpired a season ago. They were having issues stopping the run and Green Bay gave up some big plays against Philadelphia.
It will take time for the Green Bay Packers to adjust from the 3-4 defensive scheme to the 4-3 defensive scheme, but the defense can not play like this all season long. It will need to be better moving forward, especially with quarterback Jordan Love sidelined for now.
2025 NFL Mock Draft Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting Cornerback Tacario Davis From the Arizona Wildcats
After the first week of the 2024 NFL season, lombardiavenue.com writer Freddie Lombardi created a mock draft for the Green Bay Packers. He thinks that the Packers will select Arizona Wildcats cornerback 24th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Lombardi said:
“Davis broke up 15 passes and made one interception for the Wildcats last season. According to PFF, he allowed only 42.6 percent of passes to be completed in his coverage.”
Davis this season this season with Arizona has recorded seven tackles. Field Yates of ESPN also added about Tacario Davis:
“He’s one of the most unique cornerbacks in college football, standing 6-foot-4 (rare for the position) and showing smooth movement traits. Davis is instinctive with precise timing and technique to be a ball disruptor when it is thrown in his direction, too.”
There is no doubt that the Green Bay Packers will need to address the cornerback position in the 2025 NFL Draft. Green Bay, Wisconsin will be hosting the draft then.
Eric Stokes’s Fifth-Year Option Was Not Picked Up
The Green Bay Packers did not pick up the fifth-year option on cornerback Eric Stokes. It probably means that they are going to be moving off of him after this season and not re-sign him. Tacario Davis of the Arizona Wildcats or any other cornerback would make sense for the Packers in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Green Bay is going to need to find another starting cornerback then. Also, Jaire Alexander is not getting any younger and he could be also expendable at some point for this football team.
