The Philadelphia 76ers acquisition of All-Star wing Paul George has made the team one of the few squads who can win the East next season. In the process, they have become legitimate threats to the Milwaukee Bucks’ chances of winning another ring next year.
The Sixers are poised for a promising 2024-25 season following a transformative offseason. General Manager Daryl Morey made significant moves, highlighted by the acquisition of George, who joins a roster centered around reigning MVP Joel Embiid. The team also re-signed key players like Tyrese Maxey and Kyle Lowry, while adding depth with free agents such as Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon.
Last season, the Sixers faced challenges when Embiid missed crucial time due to injury, yet they still managed to secure 47 wins and reach the playoffs. Maxey emerged as a star, averaging nearly 26 points per game and earning All-Star honors. Coach Nick Nurse’s ability to adapt was vital in keeping the team competitive during Embiid’s absence.
This year’s roster looks formidable, with a blend of established stars and rising talent. George’s arrival brings a seasoned player who can contribute without the pressure of being the primary scorer, allowing him to focus on making an impact alongside Embiid and Maxey. The Sixers aim to solidify their position among the Eastern Conference elite, competing with the likes of the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.
The Reason Why Philadelphia 76ers Are a Threat to the Milwaukee Bucks Next Season
Outside of the Boston Celtics, the Sixers are projected to make a move for the East’s top spot next season. This will pit them against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, as seen in an NBA analysis by Sports Illutsrated’s Cody Smith.
“It’s been difficult at times for Philadelphia 76ers fans to “Trust the Process” when they haven’t been able to advance past the second round of the playoffs during Joel Embiid’s tenure, but that streak looks like it can finally end this season. The 76ers managed to reel in the biggest fish of the free agency period by inking Paul George to a four-year deal, which allows them to perhaps form the best trio in all of basketball playing alongside Tyrese Maxey and Embiid.”
The Bucks are looking to rebound in the 2024-25 season after a disappointing playoff exit. With a championship in their sights, the team hopes the pairing of Lillard and Antetokounmpo can lead to success. A projected record of 52-30 reflects their potential if everything clicks.
It remains to be seen which of the two teams will come out on top of each other when the new season starts. What’s certain, though, is that this will be one match-up everyone will be eager to see.
