A great deal of the media coverage following the Green Bay Packers’ 34-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday was dedicated to the poor play and coaching of the defense. This is, of course, understandable. After all, the Buccaneers’ passing game, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield, torched Joe Barry’s defense at will. The performance was so bad, many were convinced that head coach Matt LaFleur would [finally] fire Barry as defensive coordinator.
LaFleur, however, did not choose that course of action. An additional storyline this week has been De’Vondre Campbell’s post on social media that has created questions from fans and media regarding the relationship between players and coaches on the defensive side of the ball. More information on that situation can be found here.
Unfortunately, in the frustration and finger-pointing that (to an extent, understandably) took place following the loss, some pretty impressive accomplishments from Kenny Clark were overshadowed.
Kenny Clark Now Is on the Green Bay Packers’ Top-10 List for Career Sacks
Despite the criticism of the defense on Sunday, it should be noted that defensive tackle Kenny Clark had an excellent game. He logged two sacks on the day, giving him a career-high 6.5 sacks with three games remaining.
The two sacks also moved Clark into the top-10 on the Packers’ all-time list. According to the Packers’ dope sheet:
DL Kenny Clark matched his career high with two sacks in Week 15, giving him a career-best 6.5 sacks on the season. It marked the sixth two-sack game of his career and the third time in four regular-season games against the Buccaneers that he has had at least 1.5 sacks.
With 33.0 career sacks, Clark passed DE Vonnie Holiday and LB Nick Perry (32.0) for No. 10 and LB Bryce Paup (32.5) for No. 9 on Green Bay’s all-time list (since 1982).
The Packers’ top-ten official sack leaders are now:
- Clay Matthews: 83.5
- Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila: 74.5
- Reggie White: 68.5
- Tim Harris: 55.0
- Aaron Kampman: 54.0
- Ezra Johnson: 41.5
- Preston Smith: 39.0
- Tony Bennett: 36.0
- Kenny Clark: 33.0
- Bryce Paup: 32.5
