Sources told ESPN that the Green Bay Packers were the surprise team potentially interested in trading for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. This comes as a surprise because they already have AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones in the backfield for the upcoming 2023 season, along with undrafted rookie Emanuel Wilson.
Green Bay Packers Were Surprise Team In on Jonathan Taylor
Taylor is not a stranger to the state of Wisconsin because he played his college football at Wisconsin. Jonathan Taylor, since 4 p.m. Tuesday, was placed on the PUP list by Indianapolis. He is not allowed to play the first four games of the 2023 season. Taylor is allowed to be traded before that time and have him get acclimated to another destination.
Some of the other teams that had an eye on him were the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, and Miami Dolphins. If the Green Bay Packers were to pull the trigger on a Jonathan Taylor trade, it could change things in the NFC North. It could also have a ripple effect on the futures of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. The Packers are currently carrying three running backs on the roster after making roster cuts on Tuesday.
Trading for Jonathan Taylor would help out quarterback Jordan Love in a big way. The offense would become more dynamic, and Love would have an easier time back there. It will also affect the future of not only Aaron Jones but also AJ Dillon. If Taylor becomes a Packer, Dillon becomes the third running back on the roster.
With the Colts running back room thin and with Dillon being a free agent at the end of the season, would the Packers ship him out in the same trade? It remains to be seen what will happen with the Packers and Jonathan Taylor.
