The Green Bay Packers suffered a miserable 34-20 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night.  The contest brought the Packers back to reality that they may be further away than they originally thought from being an NFC North contender.

The Packers’ defense couldn’t stop the Lions offense at all to start the game.  The Lions were up 27-3 at halftime.  The Packers’ offense didn’t do the team any favors either, and now it is being reported that one of their starters was in a walking boot after the loss.

    Per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky:

As if the Packers’ offensive line didn’t have enough issues, guard Jon Runyan was in a walking boot today. He said he has a sprained left ankle — although it’s not a high-ankle sprain, which leaves him hopeful to play a week from Monday at the Raiders.

The injury may have contributed to Runyan’s struggles, especially in pass protection. Runyan gave up five pressures and a sack, according to Pro Football Focus. There was also one penalty against him.

As a result of the Packers’ extra time off before Week 5, Runyan is in a good position to return to the team. As the Packers do not face the Raiders until Monday, Oct. 9, he has over a week to get his ankle back to playing condition.

The Packers allowed 22 total pressures to the Lions, however, their offensive line was missing starters at left tackle (Bakhtiari) and left guard (Jenkins). Right guard Runyan and right tackle Zach Tom also missed time.

The Packers’ offensive line will need to keep Jordan Love upright this season if they want to have success in the passing game.
