The Green Bay Packers are one of the most iconic franchises in NFL history. They have the most championships in NFL history with 13 and the second most hall of famers to ever suit up for their team with 34.
It could have been one more if one future Hall of Famer had his way.
One Future Hall of Famer Wishes He Would’ve Played For The Green Bay Packers
There’s no doubt that J.J. Watt’s loyalty resides with the Houston Texans after having spent 10 of his 12 NFL seasons there. However, outside of Arizona, there’s another team he would’ve liked to play for. It should come as no surprise that he would have liked to play for the Green Bay Packers as a Wisconsin native.
“I loved being in Houston. The people were unbelievable to me, it was great,” Watt said on the Stick To Football podcast, via Talksport. “I grew up in Wisconsin and I grew up in Green Bay. The Packers, have a little bit of a different relationship with their fans… (The Packers are) a community-owned team, it’s a small town, so that’s one that always would have been really cool.”
JJ Watt Is A First Ballot Hall Famer
From 2011 to 2015, Watt had one of the most impressive first-five-season runs of all time. Over the course of those 80 regular-season games, he racked up 74.5 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, 12 recoveries, 132 tackles for loss, 209 quarterback hits, one interception (an 80-yard pick-six), and one safety.
During that span, the Texans won 42 games, 16 of them by a one-score margin. A person who appreciates Watt’s role during that dominant chapter might believe Houston would have lost 16 more games if he hadn’t played. It’s that kind of play that makes a defender game-changing.
This is a list of his career accomplishments:
- 3× NFL Defensive Player of the Year
- Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year
- 5× First-team All-Pro
- 2× Second-team All-Pro
- 5× Pro Bowl
- 2× NFL sacks leader
- NFL forced fumbles co-leader
- NFL 2010s All-Decade Team
- Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year
- Bert Bell Award
- PFWA All-Rookie Team
- Houston Texans Ring of Honor
- NFL record
- Seasons with 20+ sacks: 2
When his time comes, Watt will be a First Ballot Hall Of Famer no questions asked.
